Wallpaper rolled the wrong way......

....anyone ever had this? First time for me today and what a pain couldn't get my head round it to start with having to match the pattern from the bottom up. The ceiling line was well out of whack which didn't help so I needed to adjust the pattern fall so that the noticeable elements of it weren't to close to the ceiling causing it to run out too much.....easier said than done when the top is not where it should be on the roll. In the end I unravelled and re-rolled each roll luckily it...

Its been a while, again.

As some here may know, I'm an apprentice painter with a medium sized firm

99% of our work is industrial ( factories and super schools etc. )

Thursday I was asked to give an MDF statue/vase plinth a coat of acrylic primer undercoat and two acrylic gloss coats.

I gave the plinth a light rub down to get it smooth and applied the primer undercoat. left to dry, followed by a good rub back and a top coat.

I was told to roll this plinth with a 4" roller ( cheapest of...

So.....

A. What ya got?

B. Do you cover up for work? Do customers mind?

I have a fair few and have had comments in the past about trust issues in the house and as people think I look too young to run a business I have always covered up, until recently.

I have stopped worrying now and don't cover up and haven't noticed any difference yet. I think maybe it helps now Im well established.

I tried out Tikkurila Helmi 80 for the first time today.

It's a lovely drop of paint. Nice to apply, lays off well, touch dry in 15/30 minutes, tough and a good gloss finish.

As it's not a hybrid it's non-yellowing as well. The only minor downside is the 16 hour re-coat time.

The video shows 2 coats fully dried.

Hello everyone,
Self employed decorator here that specializes in domestic work and I saw this forum and thought it would be a good idea to join and learn some tips and so forth from other decorators.
I am based in Essex, UK and have been doing this since February 2003. I did a city and guilds crash course in 2008 because I thought it would look better in the customers eyes and since then have never looked back.
With a great reputation that precedes me and always being recommended I am...

Painting door frames

Just to settle something between me and other painters and what I was taught.

When painting a door frame do you paint the hinge edge with the room, or stop at the door stop all the way round?

So for example in this pic you can see a difference in colour outside but they haven't done the hinge edge, which to my knowledge is wrong.

What say you?

PAINTED STEEL CONTAINER

I have just received an email for a quote to paint this steel container. The client is wanting it a bright red gloss. Wheat gloss am I best using on this. I will need to be very hardwearing. I think I works out at 56m2 all in, so preferably that's sold in gallon tins. Also the client says there is a few dents in the container so I will need to fill these, do anyone recommend a filler I would use for this? Thanks for any help in advance.

Evening people, I'm 99.9% convinced on buying a RTS 400, but have a couple of questions.

Will the extractor hose fit directly to my Mirka 915?

Is it worth spending the extra and getting the EQ with speed control?

Got a call to price this kitchen up. After lots of colour samples already gone through by the customer before even I got the call, I asked her to look through the Little Green and Mylands charts too. After a lot of thought, the customer chose Little Greene Linen Wash #33.
Had the paint supplied by Holman's in Helmi Matt as the finish. I might just send the Matt back to Holman's to check on the colour likeness :scratchhead:

Evening all , hope we are all well . Started a large H.S.L today , stripping an embossed anaglypta with no problems. The drama is we have what looked like a fine woodchip beneath initially, but turns out to be what looks like an emulsion with sand in. I have a vague recollection of a paint similar to this back in the 80's , if I remember rightly it was supposed to cover cracked walls . Whoever made that s***e up needs shooting as well as the kn*b who painted on to the wall ! We have tried...
