Repair care Mini Profi alternative

$

Hi all,

For those of you thinking of getting the Repair care Mini Profi grinder I can suggest a much cheaper alternative. The Makita GD0600, works great, a fraction of the price and will accept the mini profi cutters.

Will it last as long as the mini profi? I dont know, but I will only do a few of these jobs a year.

I have replaced 4 window cills this Sunday and it was a pleasure to use the makita.

Removing masking tapes

So having this spring/summer moved from Oil based to water based and never really masked anything up before apart from when spraying, I have been masking glass etc prior to using allcoat and other waterbased systems, but when do you find the best time to remove maskings. Do you leave it till touch dry, same day or day after or when curing has occurred which I suppose is less likely unless you're on the same job. Not really looking for advice just opinions.

hi everyone, I'm starting a new large contract soon , and cleanliness is key ! the contract consists of stripping very large (approx 36 inches circumference) gluelam handrails. my issue is as these are on very expensive apartments and quite high up I cant risk anything blowing off or falling down the other side of the balconies. ive tried nitromorse (ha,ha,ha,ha) which these days is nothing short of pathetic, and a few others . ive settled and am semi content with enviromose which you...

Dulux Light and Space

Has anybody used this? Other than finding out it only comes in 5ltrs, is more reflective due to the 'glass' particles in it, what ever that means, and being a lot more costly than standard trade Dulux which I also think is overpriced, I know nothing about coverage and general application. Can anybody help?

Painting Fibreliner

Been using Fibreliner for a while now, cant see much difference between Erfurt and Wickes own except for the cost!

I have always found it difficult with the amount of coats required, normally 3 coats of mully and job done but I find Fibreliner always needs a least one or more coats with trade matts:headwall:

Currently using Jonos Vinyl Silk (yes I know) but on 3rd coat still looks s**t, using a medium pile micro fibre sleeve, thought about a long pile but the finish is gonna be crapolla!...

liquid sandpaper

Hi all,
I'm a bit behind on a job. I've got about five doors and architraves to repaint - pretty much the same colour.
I was wondering about to trying liquid sandpaper for the first time since someone said it's quicker than sanding as a prep method.
I probably won't make a habit of it as I'm not keen on chemicals.
I just wondered whether anyone has any experience of it/suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Tess

A topic that we will all have a opinion on and soon we'll have a vote about it.

Just wondered what fellow brothers are thinking about this. Let's not make it a political slagging match, I'm interested that's all.

My gut feeling is it would be a step backwards to leave, but I honestly need more information before making any decision.

Its been a while, again.

As some here may know, I'm an apprentice painter with a medium sized firm

99% of our work is industrial ( factories and super schools etc. )

Thursday I was asked to give an MDF statue/vase plinth a coat of acrylic primer undercoat and two acrylic gloss coats.

I gave the plinth a light rub down to get it smooth and applied the primer undercoat. left to dry, followed by a good rub back and a top coat.

I was told to roll this plinth with a 4" roller ( cheapest of...

I'm sure we all get emailed or told about deals on tools and materials which we either thank our lucky stars for or think 'damn I wish that was a week ago' as it could have saved me a few bob.

So it stands to reason that whilst the many deals we come across might not suit you at the time, it might be perfect for your fellow brother/sister of the brush.

With that in mind I propose we have a sticky thread where members can post the latest offers/specials/clearance... ect ect deals they...

Just a heads up for anyone that orders theirs through Ben, spoke to him yesterday and they have no helmi 10 till next week sometime because they have had to get rid of the batch they have as it's got bits in it. It's great paint but I'm starting to get abit worried about the inconsistency of it. Only been using them since Jan and this is the second batch of paint with bits in (first was the optiva flat matt) and the second time they have no helmi 10

Pre pasted mural??

Just been up to see a job and it's a pre pasted mural, it's going on top of a recently painted (vinyl matt) wall. Should I be thinking about sizing or not. It's a butt joint so no worry about damaging via the splice. Just never used a pre pasted mural before. It's 21" wide as well which again I've never come across.

Thanks.

I don't normally do this as a rule but have a customer who has a holiday let.
I do quite a bit of work for her and she asked me if I would be interested to do it.
She wasn't very happy with the last decorators, anyway I'm off there early Monday morning and stopping there on site.
I am very busy so I am doing it in two stages. It's in Burnham Market, Norfolk and it's an area I know quite well as my mother in law has place there too.
It should be a break from my normal routine, I know where...

school corridors

OK gents , pricing a job in a school, was built new last year but all decorated in what seems to be a normal vinyl matt. As a result the lower half of the corridor walls are well soiled. The client has asked me to paint up to a height of 1.2m with a paint that is hard wearing and easily cleaned, also needs to be water based but not a gloss finish . I'm not going down the local supplier routes as I would like more work from them.... any suggestions would be gratefully received

Festool RTS advice

Evening people, I'm 99.9% convinced on buying a RTS 400, but have a couple of questions.

Will the extractor hose fit directly to my Mirka 915?

Is it worth spending the extra and getting the EQ with speed control?
