Total years of Experience on PPS?

Talking with a member today and I was wondering what the combined age of all of our paint trade experience was on PPS.

If you fancy putting your time in the trade down (applying paint/paper) we'll know won't we. (Not including any breaks for other jobs).
It's gotta run to over 7000 years of experience if every member participated!

Aggie alone is 93 :oldman:

C'mon, get your years down. When doing so, add your years to the last total that was added.
So mine is 30 years, if...

Hi got my new Graco HVLP 9.5 Procomp and used it at my place the weekend.

The doors and trim was finished in some type of clear varnish, knots spot primed with Isofix.

First High Hide I love this paint you can tell is quality by the weight of the can! Thinned it about 5% and warmed it just over 24 degrease sprayed very well I did coat as heavy as I could and it pulled back and dried very well great adhesion and obliteration.

Next day Natura this was given to me by Craig to test I used...

Just interested in your thoughts with this HVLP.

Currently using Wagner XVLP spraying Water based mainly BM satin, primers and Helmi and I do get a good finish with the brown head, but I find it slow and would prefer a wider fan thats more controllable to get a wetter coat on quicker.

I know alot have gone to AA setups but I want to stick with a more portable option.

I think these are about £1300 but its got to be the correct choice for that kind of money!

Are there any painters here who use a car for their transport rather than a van?

Hi fellow painters! I hope you are all well.

My question today is... are there any painters who use a car rather than a van? The reason i ask this is because my van recently came to its end. Its repairs were more than the value of the car and it was one thing after another. I have a car, its nothing special, just a ford focus 5 door worth around £700 and it is a diesel. I have been thinking about using this for painting. My girlfriend is due our baby in september and i know i don’t want to...

Kitchen units re-painted, it wasn't too great before and I convinced the client with bm products.

This was done along with pretty much most of the house...she kept adding jobs! I told her no more in the end, still back and forth doing more now.

Great client nevertheless, sandwiches, drinks they couldn't do enough for me.

Just my mesh again that I'll fit above a corner of a window wall then skim over. Guess you can use easyfill or something, maybe that roll on kanuf would work to. It's a cluster of cracks so the single peace will cover in one.. I'll dustless sand and paint when dry [IMG]

Hi, I’ve got some shop doors to paint, the owner wishes to use supadec, does anyone have any info on its durability, I haven’t used it in this situation before and I’m worried about using it in such a high contact area, does anyone have any experience of using supadec in such an area.

Hi,
Just a few pics of some melamine wardrobe doors prepped, primed with BIN, and sprayed with BM scuff x eggshell at 1000psi! Colour was matched to F&B Railings. This is after one coat too. Great stuff!!!
Pic right at the bottom was bespoke previously painted woodwork. Prepped, HH tinted to F&B Pavillion Grey, topcoat the same colour in scuff x eggshell.

Had a kitchen that had a nicotene covered ceiling, along with the walls and entire property! I washed it down with sugar soap, rinsed twice and stainblocked with 2 coats of coverstain but it seems to have failed as theirs yellow stains coming through the acrylic eggshell. Iv never had this before as its always been a spot on way of dealing with it so id be interested to hear of other ppls thoughts and methods.

Skimming large areas with compound

Hello! Not sure if this has been covered in he past, but I’m starting to do more and more of this all the time as an alternative to traditional plastering and therefore paying a plasterer.
Even on the smallest of ceiling cracks, I always tape, and fill with compounds, toupret, easi-fill/gyproc/Knauf for usually a combination of more than one.
Anyway, after being let down by one of my usual spreads, I had a nice job booked in and decided to tackle the whole lot myself. Up to this point, the...

Paint coming off in sheets

Pricing a rather large job next week. It was refurbed by the couple about 5yrs ago, in their words, done cheaply as they had run out of cash. I have not seen the whole property, but the rooms I have are not good. I can see lots of failing paint, and IMO this has been caused by no Mistcoat. Before I take my mirka to these walls, what options do I have as I think this will potentially be coming off in sheets, and I'm not to keen on scrapping back all celings and walls as its bloody big!

6.5" roller sleeves for oil based gloss?

$

I love the finish from a Wooster Jumbo Koter red feather roller sleeve in oil based gloss on doors but ideally i'd like a 6.5" rather than the 4.5" red feather as sometimes i have to get through a lot of doors.
I've tried a few other 6.5" and 7" sleeves but the ones i've tried either continue to shed even after de-linting or simply don't put enough paint on .
Has anyone got any recommendations for a decent 6.5" glosser that isn't a foam sleeve ?

"Superior" lining paper....laugh!!

Why can't they leave well alone?
Have used Albany 1400 lining paper hung with Solvite cold water paste for years.. Brilliant!
Now it's re-labelled 'Superior' , however, it's anything but..
The lining: has to be hung with a ready mixed adhesive.. (more cost)
Requires more effort in butting.. (more time)
and feels course to the touch after painting.. (more dissatisfaction)!

Just curious, but what is it exactly that gives it it's 'Superior' status?...

Dulux trade Satinwood solvent: really??

I hadn't used this stuff for years. I can see why, they could use up all the old stockpile of 'Woolworth Value Gloss' tins. It makes Rubbol Satura seem non-drip. I cannot believe Dulux have got the nerve to sell this to tradesmen. Whoever they got to test it lied and took the money

Began a lounge last week, only to discover the ceiling, that I thought was regular painted plaster, was in fact a skim of something rather soft like Artex.
Was mentally gearing up to inform the customer and face the possibility of stripping it back, when I remembered Gardz 'hardens soft finishes'.
Have only used it previously for sealing purposes but thought for sake of half an hour and 2.5 litres of Gardz it was worth a shot.
The following day the ceiling was solid and ready for lining....

Thank Gardz
