Hello all.

After seeing so many interesting threads on this website I felt the need to join! Some excellent advice is available here and I hope that my 13 years of decorating experience could add a little bit more:smile:

So my first question to the community is probably an age old one. HVLP vs xvlp. I started spraying over year ago and love it. I have what I consider a crappy aristo op19. I have had a lot of fun with it. And I have achieved great results. So I have an airless. I want a...

Had a odd one today, I use Gardz quite a bit but its let me down today or I have done someting wrong.

Stripped a ceiling of paper and washed pasye off the old paint underneath looks like oil Eggshell after sanding and a dust I put a good coat of Gardz on this was last week.

Today first coat of Anti-reflex no problem then second coat and lots of small blisters all over they seem to be drying back will see in the morning.

Any ideas or thoughts what I have done wrong?

Exterior gloss

I started an exterior last year and used sandtex flexi gloss. It still looks fine and happy with it. I'm continuing the job next week (weather permitting) and want to use water based if poss. Sandtex flexigloss is a particularly shiney gloss so which wb product/ system would be closest to it? Realise it's never gonna quite have the sheen of the ob but wondering what would be closest to it? Loads and loads of wood to paint so grand entrance not feasible unfortunately .Cheers

Evening

Been asked to coat up/seal a large area of brickwork to a clear finish, any suggested products would be welcome, pic attached is only a small snapshot, its a decent sized area.

Sprayed ideally so something suitable to run through the gun.

Thanks in advance

Graco HVLP Turboforce 11 9.5?

Just interested in your thoughts with this HVLP.

Currently using Wagner XVLP spraying Water based mainly BM satin, primers and Helmi and I do get a good finish with the brown head, but I find it slow and would prefer a wider fan thats more controllable to get a wetter coat on quicker.

I know alot have gone to AA setups but I want to stick with a more portable option.

I think these are about £1300 but its got to be the correct choice for that kind of money!

Would you pick our trade again?

If you started this trade as a 15, 16, 17 or 18 year old and, if you could start work again and choose another job, would you do just that or, would you choose this trade again,,, knowing what you know now of course?

I know not all of us here may have originally started out as young lads and lasses in the painting and decorating trade. You may have had careers elsewhere before the decorating trade.
But you can still "start again" and join with this thread

Bm colours and colour matching

I'm a massive fan of Bm but last couple of colours matched we not quite there.

I find that Bm colours lack any sort of undertones and more of a strong, solid vibrant colour.

It's the neutral colours that are sometimes not quite right and also fb colours are not quite right. I know they are only matching to their own colours so I can' knock them.

I' going to either give them the Bm fan deck or will buy the proper one and charge for any extra coats needed.

Anyone else having any issues?

external masonry and woodwork same finish/product?

Hi guys.

Customer has a Tudor look to the front of the house. She wants to try painting it first as the council want her to jump through hoops to get it clad. She wants it all to look the same so you cant really see the Tudor effect anymore. Shes worried about potential colour difference between products.

Is there anything decent that will go on both? or a decent matt for external ww?

... little wonder this bloke, The Building Sheriff ( [IMG] ) has his comments disabled.

I bet his skirts and strings look worse after he's finished than in the filmed shoot.
The buildingsheriff dot com will show you how

I'd place that general purpose tape really hard down on his hairy arms and beard, then yank the bejesus out of it and make him squeal!

Hi got my new Graco HVLP 9.5 Procomp and used it at my place the weekend.

The doors and trim was finished in some type of clear varnish, knots spot primed with Isofix.

First High Hide I love this paint you can tell is quality by the weight of the can! Thinned it about 5% and warmed it just over 24 degrease sprayed very well I did coat as heavy as I could and it pulled back and dried very well great adhesion and obliteration.

Next day Natura this was given to me by Craig to test I used...

I've been thinking of dabbling into the dark art of spraying... 9x louvre doors does that to you. :omg:

Anyone got one of these, or have an opinion on this/similar. £500 is proper top end for me and the marketing ticks the boxes, but i'd like to hear reality first:smile:

Thanks...

Want to use Benjamin Moore, which one?

Hi there, hope you can advise.
I'm exclusively an oil head and have heard lots of good comments on this forum about the water based Benjamin Moore.
So, customer wants water-based inside and out on their sashes, eggshell/Matt sheen. I'll be priming everything in 123.
My questions are
1. Out of Aura and Ultra spec, which one levels out the best (we are known for our excellent finishes in oil and I'm a little worried that this job won't turn out quite like the rest)
2. How flat is 'flat' from...
