Oil brushes

Not sure if there is already a thread on this , I searched but couldn't find one ....

Which brushes does everyone use for oil gloss , eggshell , satin ?
I always used to use Hamilton perfection but they seem different now , I always use bristle but am thinking about trying some synthetic (any suggestions )?

Also dulux used to do a cheap brush with red handle which were awesome , especially the inch ones , they would work down to a nice window brush in no time at all ,
Have also used maxim...

Thought it was about time I got involved on PPS. Seem to spend a lot of time on Twitter and FB so hard to fit everything in!

Started in 1996. Love doing what I do. Started to try and get more into other avenues like hand painting furniture and kitchens last year.

Have noticed a few names that I recognise from Twitter and FB.

Looking forward to joining in the conversations on a regular basis.

I was sent this by PPS to try out and have been giving it a go all week.

First impression is it looks cheaply made, so wasn't expecting much.

First trial was making some pastry. It got into the corners of the pie really well whilst applying an even coat of egg white.

Next up was some Tikkurila emulsion. At first I was finding an excuse to use it. I used it to cut in small areas between the window sills and splashbacks and between the cooker hood and...

Professional working practices

Hi all,
Could anyone point me to resources/tips for better working practices in terms of looking after tools and being organised and tidy at work.
My finished work is always tidy but sometimes I feel a little chaotic in my work methods and organisation. I know maybe it sounds obvious to some but....not always to me!
I came to painting and decorating in an unusual fashion and missed out on this training.
Thanks,
Tess

Pre pasted mural??

Just been up to see a job and it's a pre pasted mural, it's going on top of a recently painted (vinyl matt) wall. Should I be thinking about sizing or not. It's a butt joint so no worry about damaging via the splice. Just never used a pre pasted mural before. It's 21" wide as well which again I've never come across.

Thanks.

Tikkurila Helmi 80

I tried out Tikkurila Helmi 80 for the first time today.

It's a lovely drop of paint. Nice to apply, lays off well, touch dry in 15/30 minutes, tough and a good gloss finish.

As it's not a hybrid it's non-yellowing as well. The only minor downside is the 16 hour re-coat time.

The video shows 2 coats fully dried.

Painting door frames

Just to settle something between me and other painters and what I was taught.

When painting a door frame do you paint the hinge edge with the room, or stop at the door stop all the way round?

So for example in this pic you can see a difference in colour outside but they haven't done the hinge edge, which to my knowledge is wrong.

What say you?

Sorry!! first proper chance to give my view on the 2inch Bentley brush kindly given to me firstly I do like the American style handle the brush itself is very soft and springy again it's something I prefer first use was with acrylic primer straight out of the tin the Bentley met the challenge it laid the paint on nicely and it levelled out lovely which isn't always the case with Dulux however I think the Bentley would come into its own using WB satin and gloss I would definitely buy the...

I'm sure we all get emailed or told about deals on tools and materials which we either thank our lucky stars for or think 'damn I wish that was a week ago' as it could have saved me a few bob.

So it stands to reason that whilst the many deals we come across might not suit you at the time, it might be perfect for your fellow brother/sister of the brush.

With that in mind I propose we have a sticky thread where members can post the latest offers/specials/clearance... ect ect deals they...

so as most are aware I have had my transit stolen , so I have been trawling the web and a few garages this weekend having a look what's about . But really unsure what to go for !! I'm avoiding any type of transit old shape as they are easy to break into . There is a skeleton type key that scum are using to get in to them !! Also I have been told to avoid dispatches by 4 garages and a mechanic friend as apparently they are too heavy for the engine causing all sorts of problems ! Can anyone...
