Worktops... matching two different woods

Hi guys,

A client has gone and got a worktop to go with an existing worktop and it's a totally different kind of wood. Is she doomed/needs to get a whole different wood or is there a way of shading them to a close match?

It's a job she wants to do herself but she thinks if she sands the existing down then she can put something on them to match...
